Zanni Maddness:…Oops All Zanni!

  • City In Motion Dance Studio 3036 Gillham Road Kansas City, MO 64108 United States (map)

Presented with Commedia Kansas City

This three hour workshop gets deeper into the nitty gritty of one of the most crucial mask categories in the Commedia dell’Arte; The Zanni!

Like with our Intro to Commedia class, we will be on our feet learning the physicality,
mentality and common lazzi (comic bits) for Zanni, along with the various sub-masks!
Masks we will cover includes: Second Zanni (Tuffildino, Arrlecchino, etc etc) First Zanni (Brighella, Scapino, etc), Pedrolino (Pierrot in France), Servette (Columbina)

In this workshop will will make time for improvisations with each of the masks, from scenes to fun lazzi! So come prepared to move, and speak!

We welcome all to join us for the fun, but if you have taken one of our previous intro workshops we encourage you to come and expand your repertoire!

Please show up with plenty of water, snacks, and clothing that you can move freely in!

Your Instructor:

Patrick Rippeto is the cofounder and artistic director of Commedia Kansas City. He has been doing theatre since he was in high school, where he was exposed to works of Moliere, Shakespeare, Kauffman and Hart, and more! These instilled a love of farce and physical
comedy so much so that he pursued them until he landed in Italy. There he studied the Commedia dell’Arte with the master Antonio Fava. He learned the art as it should be performed and not just as a tool for actors. He has taken these classes to institutions all over the KC Metro area, from Avila, Benedictine College, and various high schools. Now, with the help of Beth Byrd-Lonski, he brings Commedia dell’Arte to you performers here in Kansas City. Come join us!
