THE BODY HAS THE ANSWERS

A Workshop by Tony Fuemmeler

The actor has a wealth of tools in their body alone. In this movement-centered workshop, we will explore using your physicality to generate and sustain legible characters and interactions.

Together we will:

Explore dynamic gesture
Create specific physical character
Tell a story without saying a thing
Access your availability to play
Connect to audiences more fully
Generate material from the body

Be sure to wear clothes you are comfortable moving in.

The Instructor:
Tony Fuemmeler is a theater artist exploring transformation, expression, and story. He frequently uses masks and puppetry in his work and has designed masks, coached actors in movement, puppeteered, and directed shows around the country. Among many others, he has collaborated on Wolf Play (Artists Repertory Theater), The Spider Queen (The NOLA Project), The Snowstorm (Many Hats), The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (Oregon Children’s Theater), bugged. (Simple Machines), MAYA (Teach for India, Mumbai), and the Rubin Museum Gala. Tony is currently the Head of Training at Dell’Arte International and faculty in mask making and performance, movement, and commedia dell’arte. Tony is a graduate of the University of Kansas and Dell’Arte International.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop! Be sure to drive around to the back of the building where you'll see plenty of parking. The entrance to Lorna's Studio of Dance is on the North side. Follow the signs. You'll have access to a refrigerator. Be sure to bring a water bottle and snacks.

2 MIMES IN A POD

Kansas City Fringe Festival 2024

These two students of world-renowned Mime artist Marcel Marceau, like to get together every few years and show their latest Mime pieces. This is one of those years. Beth and Dean will bring their latest, silliest, most serious, most favorite numbers to the stage.

The KC Fringe Festival 2024 is the largest celebration of arts and culture in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Returning live for its 20th season for a two-week explosion of performance, film, visual arts exhibitions, and events that showcase the work of local, national, and international artists. The mostly volunteer-run organization has been supporting artists, cultivating creators, and attracting adventurous audiences since July 2005.

KC Fringe offers opportunities to get up close and personal with artists who are creating—and experimenting with—theater, dance, film, music, and visual arts. KC Fringe Festival offerings are non-juried and non-censored. Artists and performers are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

ABOUT BETH BYRD

Beth Byrd-Lonski is a professional mime, clown, physical theater artist, producer of physical theater, and teacher. She’s been performing since 1982. She creates unique clown, mime, and themed characters for parties, weddings, special occasions, corporate events, etc.

She’s enjoyed touring the country as a solo artist for schools and libraries as well as collaborating with various artists and arts organizations to create original material.

Beth has been an Artist in Residence with the Charlotte Street Foundation and an Art in the Loop Artist. She has produced shows and/or workshops for the KC Fringe Festival as well as emceeing the KC Youth Fringe.

Beth is a Physical Theater Artist who uses aspects of Mime, Clown, Music, Poetry, Art, Dance and Pure Physical Theater to create original work. Dealing with themes that go beyond words such as emotion and humanity, Physical Theater speaks directly to the essence of mankind; it is immediate, intimate, familiar, and universal. Beth strives to relate to her audience through skilled performance as well as through shared experiences.

She chooses projects, commissions, or assignments that challenge her to become a better performer, as well as a better human being. Whether it’s a commission from a gallery to interpret visual art through Physical Theater, a project with musicians to create a Bastille Day performance or a request to perform a Marcel Marceau tribute solo – each performance is a unique collaboration with fellow artists and the audience.
